Quincentenary of Kollam Kadeesa Syrian Church

It is believed that St.Thomas one of the disciples of Jesus Christ came to India in A.D.52, and built 7½ churches in Malankara. One of them was in Kurakeni Kollam and was presumably destroyed by natural disaster. In A.D. 825 Persian merchent named Maruvan Sapeer Eso landed in Kollam. Along with him Mar. Sabore and Mar. Aphroth, two Syrian bishops representing the Persian Church and its Catholicos came to Kollam. The merchent Sapeer Eso built a church in Kollam. Which known as Tareesapplly. In A.D 1505 Portuguese landed in Kollam and fortifide the region, Kollakkaran Muthalalys, descendants of Maruvan Sapeer Eso, built a new church in Kollam in A.D.1519 and is known as Kollam Kadeesa Syrian Church,”the first Syrian Church in Kollam.” The present Kollam Kadeesa Syrian Church and its properties do still belongs to the Family of Kollam Kallada Malayil Muthalalys.

All are requested to attend the big feast and get blessings from Mar. Sabore and Mar. Aphroth.
